OTHER PROGRAMS
The
Economic Assistance Program is
executed by the Social Work Department that works as a medical
assistance coordinator in order to accomplish quirurgical processes
that take place and to provide medicines and other supplies either
for free or at social costs. For both public and private requirements,
they also arrange the payment for patients who cannot afford the
costs of rehabilitation.
- The Social Welfare Ministry's National Board of
Disabilities along with the National Counseling of Disabilities
and the CAID have established two important programs which have
benefited more than 400 patients a year. The Economic Assistance
Module is in charge of making this agreements take place. This
department also offers social work services for companies composed
by large numbers of employees and that need this kind of services.
There
is also an internship Program for
students that come from the Rehabilitation School of the Central
University of Ecuador, Psycology School of the Catholic University
of Ecuador, Orthosys and Prosthetist School of the University
of Guayaquil, San Francisco University of Quito and the Salesian
University. The students get highly involved while they do their
partnership and support the ideas established by the CAID.
This partnership take place thanks to the agreements signed with
these universities.
- The International Internship
and Volunteer Program is a new program that we implemented
in order to receive students and other professionals from abroad
and that have knowledge on similar fields that Hermano Miguel
Foundation promotes. Through this program, we will be able to
provide them of great teaching experiences. It also promotes touristic
trips around Ecuador, Spanish lessons, dancing and music lessons,
etc.
- Since the year 2000 the Creighton University in
Omaha has participated in the "Occupational Therapy Program"
by sending students and teachers to different Assisting Centers
that help disabled people, this can be possible thanks to the
mentioned internship program.
- There is a new and interesting program called
"Until collecting the last
cartridge...for disabled people"
Its objective is to fight for a social and ecological awareness
by collecting and recycling old printer and toner cartridges.
After refilling and selling them, the collected money will be
used to support the other programs created by CAID. So let us
know if you are interested in being part of this program and as
soon as you have collected enough cartridges, we will go and pick
them up from your place. "This is about a campaign of environmental
impact with a deep social content".
